Prof. Marco Frenschkowski, born 1960, is a German Protestant theologian and a history of religion scholar. He holds a chair for New Testament Studies at Leipzig University, and has published in the fields of early Christianity, ancient religion, ancient Judaism, Graeco-Roman religion, Iranian religion, and ancient magic, but also on new religious movements and inter-religious dialogue.

He has also edited many annotated editions of classical texts of imaginative literature as the writings of H. P. Lovecraft (13 vols.) and Gustav Meyrink (3 vols. so far, 5 further vols. in preparation).



Recently he is concentrating on a history of early christian religion and a comparative study on magical ritual texts. A forthcoming survey on magic in the ancient church is at the publisher.
